The game-playing girl: watched by hundreds of thousand people
Minecraft and Annie
In her YouTube channel, Minecraft is the most popular game covered. Around 80 out of her 160 videos are of it.
She likes playing Minecraft because it is “free”, not in terms of the price (it costs US$26.95, about HK$210), but about the unlimitations of the game.
Minecraft is a game of blocks, while players can build freely and venturing through customised maps.
Before she started producing videos, she made maps and somebody else streamed the playing of them. Annie, having watched those videos, found it interesting and wanted to try it herself.
She then started the Melon Survival series, a customised Minecraft map, and in the first episode, which is now viewed by more than one million times, she did not make any effort to fancy it.
“It would not hurt me so much if the only video at that time in my YouTube channel vanished,” she explains in laughter. She, starting solely for fun, had never thought she could be this famous now.
Unexpectedly anticipated by the audience, Annie decided to get the series done.
Other Minecraft survival series, such as Pumpkin Survival, Four Pillar Survival, Survival On-your-demand, and the now-going-on Spawn Block Survival, followed and came online eventually.

The series consists of 11 videos and are viewed by around 10 million viewers.

What is Minecraft?
Minecraft is a sandbox video game, in which the players can choose what, when, and how to make use of the resources in the game with an open-world setting, developed by Mojang and was released in 2011 on different platforms, such as desktops, Xbox, PlayStation, and on phones.
Players can survive in an automatically generated world of different biomes, like mountains, oceans, grasslands, jungles, mines, snowfields, and so on, and fight against hostile mobs, such as spiders; skeletons; zombies; and unique creatures Creepers, which explode while approaching creatures.
Another main feature of this game is crafting. Players can combine or break down different sorts of materials to make different things. For example, one can combine diamonds, a piece of obsidian, and books for an enchantment table to strengthen equipment, like weapons, armours, and tools.
Except survival, players can also construct their own worlds and build whatever they want. They make traps and tracks and set it as a new adventure game. After that, they can export all the elements and become a map for other to download and venture through.

There are three modes in Minecraft: Survival, Creative, and Adventure, for players to explore the world; another Spectator mode also enables player solely travelling around the biomes or witnessing in multiplayer games.
